[1016]Cyril H. Matthys Jr., 91, of Glenview, Illinois, adored husband of the late June Dolores, nee Seskind, much-loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and patriarch of the Matthys family. Cy was the father of 8 children: Steven (Joan) Matthys, Gail (Tom) Wieczorek, Bradley (Jamie) Matthys, Maureen (James) Connelly, Mark (Donna) Matthys, Cyril (Therese) Matthys III, Linda (Jayson) Paulus, and the late Mary Katherine Matthys; grandfather of 19, TJ, Mark, Nicholas, Christopher, Robert, Jonathan, Jennifer, Jessica, Michelle, Kimberly, Brooke, Courtney, Rachel, Joshua, McKenna, Lucas, Michaela, Riley and Noah; and great-grandfather of 5, Aiden, Jack, Alexandra, Lucy and Ashlyn. He was a proud son of Cyril Sr. and Emily and a loving brother of Quentin (Wendy). He was an uncle to countless nieces and nephews and a cousin and a favorite to many. He was the longtime proprietor of Cy’s Gulf Service Station in Glenview and a long-time parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where he attended elementary school. In addition, Cy was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a long-time volunteer fireman for the Village of Glenview. Cy was a hard-working, fun-loving man revered by his family and many close friends. He loved to fish, throw horseshoes, and listen to music. He will be remembered as an honest man who told it like it was and always with an extended hand, willing to help those in need. Visitation Friday, November 21, 2014, at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Services and interment private. In Lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alexian Brothers Cancer Institute would be encouraged.
