[900]GIRARD, John CaldwellHe passed away peacefully in the presence of his loved ones on Monday morning, December 12, 2005. Born to Maude and Charles Girard on December 2, 1917, John enjoyed 88 years, blessed with good health and the joy of living. He attended school in L.A., graduating from Fairfax High. Johnny followed his father into the Southern Pacific Railroad and remained on the job until World War II. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific as a Medical Corpsman.
After the war, he was introduced to the woman who would later become his wife, Helen Virginia Seskind.
They married in 1948 on Valentine's Day. Two daughters, Charlene and Georgene, were born in the following years. They made their home in the San Fernando Valley.
John entered the motion picture industry, working for 35 years as a negative cutter. Johnny’s greatest enjoyment in life came from his family. He also took great joy in playing Big Band music and had passions for gardening, painting, and automobiles.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; his two daughters, Charlene Weinstein and Georgene Sackerson; his sister, Alexandra Selna; his two sons-in-law, Burton Weinstein, and Roger Sackerson; his three grandchildren, Jennifer Fitch, David Weinstein, and Alison Sackerson and two great-grandsons John and Bradley Fitch. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His presence will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Private graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2005. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Motion Picture and Television Fund.

Helen Virginia Girard passed away peacefully, in the presence of her daughters, early Saturday morning, May 5, 2007, from complications of kidney failure. Helen was born and raised in Chicago, the eldest of four sisters to Philip and Charlotte Seskind.
During World War II, Helen was widowed when the submarine her husband, Ken Bolger, was assigned to was lost in the China Sea.
Helen moved to Los Angeles and was introduced to John Girard. They were married on Feb. 14, 1948. Their two daughters, Charlene and Georgene, completed the family. Helen and John moved from the San Fernando Valley to Visalia 13 years ago. Helen volunteered at the American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop and enjoyed being a member of a wonderful chapter of the Red Hat Society. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John, and her sister, June.
She is survived by sisters Marilyn Anderson and Janet Gianneschi; daughters Charlene Weinstein and Georgene Sackerson; sons-in-law Burton Weinstein and Roger Sackerson; grandchildren Jennifer Fitch, David Weinstein, and Alison Sackerson; great-grandsons John and Bradley Fitch; cousin Beverly Silvers; and numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Tulare County. The family is especially grateful to the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff of the Kaweah Delta Hospital dialysis department, Quail Park, and Hospice, for their kindness and dedication. Private funeral services will be held in Los Angeles.
