The following biographical sketch was produced using artificial intelligence and may contain mistakes.
Sheppard Weissman was born on March 14, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Irving Weissman and Sarah Sylvia Resnick. His wife, Mildred Ackerman, also born in Brooklyn, was the daughter of parents who had arrived through Ellis Island in 1923, placing their families within the vibrant, diverse immigrant communities of early 20th-century New York. On June 11, 1944, at the age of 20, Sheppard married Mildred in Brooklyn. Their marriage occurred against the backdrop of World War II, a conflict in which Sheppard served in the Pacific theater.
Following his military service, Sheppard began his professional life. By 1948, he was a part-time student while working at the Capital Paint and Varnish Company, pursuing a career in the post-war economy. He progressed quickly, becoming a supervisor in a paint company by 1950. During these years, he and Mildred started their family in Long Beach, New York, welcoming children David Bruce in 1947, Janice in 1948, and Steven Irving in 1956. Mildred, meanwhile, dedicated herself to keeping house. Sheppard’s career path broadened, with records indicating he was a salesman by 1954, and he later pursued successful careers as a chemist, sales manager, paint manufacturer’s representative, and builder.
Sheppard Weissman eventually relocated to Los Angeles, California. He was a 32nd-degree mason, reflecting his engagement in fraternal and community organizations. His obituary remembered him as a humanitarian, a jokester, and a friend, noting his love for music, sports, and Israel. He navigated many adversities throughout his life. Sheppard passed away in Los Angeles in August 2004 at the age of 80, having lived to see his 60th wedding anniversary. Mildred Ackerman Weissman died four years later, in February 2008, in Sherman Oaks, California. His life, marked by service, family, and professional versatility, contributed to the fabric of his community.
