[1269]Macy I. BroideRecently honorably discharged as a corporal from the U. S. Army, Macy I. Broide, son of Mrs. Ida R. Broide of 15 Pearl Street, is one of four students on the Indiana University campus to receive the coveted Ernie Pyle Memorial Award.
Broide, a senior at Indiana, was recently named editor for the fall term of the Indiana Daily Student, one of the top-notch college daily newspapers in the country. He will graduate next February.
Broide, as a combat correspondent with the 30th Infantry Regiment of the Third Division, was one of the few correspondents to gain both the Bronze Star and the Silver Star medals. He enlisted in September 1942 and was sent overseas in February 1944.
He served in the Mediterranean and European Theaters, participating in the Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns.
At Indiana, he is the campus and associate editor of the student newspaper, president of Sigma Delta Chi, a member of the American Veterans Committee and the VFW, and a member of the Flame Club, an honorary society.
He and his wife, the former Gloria Goldsholl of Gary. Ind. will return to New England following his graduation in February.

On Friday, December 22, 2017, in Chevy Chase, MD. Beloved husband of the late Gloria Goldsholl Broide. Devoted father of Cheri (Michael Sivik) Light of Cranston, RI, Beverly (Stanley) Frye of Washington and Sandra (Michael) Banas of Brunswick, ME; cherished grandfather of Zachary (Phoebe) McNees of New York, Mitchell (Nikki) Frye of Jersey City, NJ, Bradley (Elissa) Frye of New York, Emily Banas of Providence, RI and Samuel Jacob Sivik of Cranston, RI; great-grandfather of Pacey June Frye. Born in Burlington, VT. Broide graduated from Indiana University with a degree in journalism and government. He was a decorated combat Veteran of World War II, earning silver and bronze stars and serving as a war correspondent. He was a political writer and TV newscaster in Evansville, IN. He came to Washington as the administrative assistant for Sen. Vance Hartke of Indiana. After 10 years as a public affairs consultant, he returned to Capitol Hill as chief of staff of the House Budget Committee. Funeral services will be held at Temple Micah, 2829 Wisconsin Ave., NW, Washington, DC, on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 11 a.m., with interment to follow at King David Memorial Gardens, Falls Church, VA. Shiva will be held at the Frye residence on Wednesday, December 27, and Thursday, December 28, with Minyan at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Micah or a
