Mayor Soglin’s Father Dies

Prof. Albert Soglin, 58, the father of Madison Mayor Paul Soglin, died of an apparent heart attack Monday afternoon on a commuter train taking him to Highland Park, IL, where he lived.

Prof. Soglin’s body was found at 2:15 pm in Kenosha on a North Western train. A train conductor summoned authorities after failing to revive Prof. Soglin.

Kenosha County Coroner Thomas Dorff said Prof. Soglin, who taught mathematics at Chicago City College’s Loop College, was supposed to leave the train after about 1:30 pm at Highland Park. He was returning home from classes, Dorff said.

Mayor Soglin left Madison this afternoon for Highland Park. His Madison schedule has been canceled for the week.

Prof. Soglin is survived by his wife, Rose, and four children.
