Esther Zaphiriou Mittman, Age 86, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2008, after a long-term illness with Alzheimer’s in the city of Flowery Branch, Georgia.

Esther served as the executive secretary to Indiana Governor George Craig. She followed Governor Craig to Washington, D.C., to work in his law firm. She chose to make her home in the D.C. area for over 15 years, where she met her husband. After her husband’s death, she moved back to Indianapolis to be with her family and many friends. Esther was dearly loved by all who knew her.

Esther was predeceased by her husband, Robert Mittman; her brothers, Bill (Zaph) Zaphiriou and Emmanual Zaphiriou; and her parents, Stamatis and Vera Zaphiriou. She is survived by her niece, Verra Lynn Zaphiriou, her husband, Brad, and her nephew, Billy Zaphiriou. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Private services were held. She will be interred in Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, Maryland, to join her loving husband, Robert Mittman.
