From Scott Mittman Obituary (1964 - 2025) - Columbus, Ohio:

Scott Adam Mittman left our world on 1/2/2025. Scott passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family after a long battle with illness. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Scott was a proud Buckeye, a dedicated attorney, and loving husband and father. He had a larger than life personality and a way of always lighting up a room. He was a man whose sense of humor was as vast and varied as the mixtapes he lovingly curated under his alter-ego, "DJMittyMitt."

Scott enjoyed working alongside his father at the family law firm, carrying on the tradition of bankruptcy service to the Columbus community. A graduate of The Ohio State University and Capital University Law School, Scott was a dedicated lawyer. He was extremely passionate about the law and the legal process and made his clients feel at ease.

Music was a love of Scott’s life, with Bruce Springsteen holding a special place in his heart. If you were lucky enough to receive one of his infamous mixtapes, you knew you were in for an auditory adventure. Scott loved to challenge his wife to "Name That Tune", until he made a tragic error assigning U2 as the artist to a Boston song (that Janet correctly identified). He knew he had met his match.

Scott was a lover of sports, particularly Ohio State football and the Columbus Blue Jackets--he will still dream of their Stanley Cup championship. He spent his last hours listening to the Buckeyes defeat Oregon in the Rose Bowl with his family. As a long time member of the local JCC, Scott was active in the community theater there as well as dabbling in other creative ends including commercials and small tv gigs in his younger days. In fact, just last week he received yet another royalty check for his "must see TV" performance in Unsolved Mysteries from 2009. Scott was a regular in the JCC league softball and basketball games over the years. He was well known for his 3 point shot, often at the chagrin of his teammates.

Above all, Scott was a devoted husband and father. Though his wife also attended Ohio State, he and Janet did not cross paths till after graduation. They lived at the same apartment complex and once they met, the two began a partnership that was the foundation of his life for 37 years. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Jacob and Allison. Scott often made a spectacle of himself cheering on his kids. Whether he was racing down the sidelines waving his arms at football games, blowing the vuvuzela at CESA soccer games, telling scary stories at Circle S Farm campfires, or hosting world famous Hanukkah parties, Scott was ever present.

Scott will be dearly missed. His humor and quick wit will live on in stories, jokes, and memories he leaves behind. He was a man who showed us all how to live with humor, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family. We know Scott would want us to live our lives with smiles and laughter. When you think of him, hum a few bars of your favorite tune and smile for Scott. He will love it, as will we.

Scott is preceded in death by his father Lee Mittman and mother Paula Mittman. He is survived by his wife Janet, children Jacob and Allison, his sister Julie Glazer, her two sons Max and Nathan, and his uncle Mike Shuman. His legacy of laughter, love, and music will be with us always.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday January 5, 2025 at Epstein Memorial Chapel, 3232 E Main Street, Columbus.

Shiva will be at the home of Scott and Janet Mittman on Sunday, January 5 between 5-7pm.
