[2488]MARTIN J. SENCER DEAD AFTER SHORT ILLNESSMartin J. Sencer, 41, a furniture salesman, died of heart disease Monday night at his home. 1575 Lake Dr., S. E. He had been ill only a short time.
Born at Murphysboro, Tenn., Mr. Sencer came to this city about 13 years ago and, for a time, was identified with the Periodical Publishing Co. He next was with the Nappanee Kitchen Cabinet Co. of Nappanee, Ind., and then was associated with the Charles P. Limbert Furniture Co. of Holland and the Holland Furniture Co. He became a salesman for Robert W. Irwin Co., Grand Rapids, two years ago.
He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity at the University of Tennessee and the Masonic Lodge at Nappanee, Indiana.
In addition to his widow, Miss Helen Furniss of Grand Rapids, he leaves a son, David; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Sencer of New York City; a sister, Miss Sara Sencer of New York City; and a brother, S. J. Sencer of Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at Birdsall’s chapel, 63 Jefferson Ave., Wednesday morning at 10:30. The Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

[2494]SENCER — Helen Furniss Sencer, aged 103, died November 5, 1999, in Atlanta, GA. She had been a resident of Grand Rapids since 1914. She was a social worker for 40 years, serving as home service director for the Kent County Chapter of the American Red Cross and as director of outpatient services at Blodgett Memorial Hospital. She was one of the original members of the Women’s City Club and a member of Fountain Street Church from 1920 until her death. She is survived by her son, David J. Sencer of Atlanta, GA.; three grandchildren; and five grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Fountain Street Church at a later date. She would have appreciated contributions to the Pastor's Fund at Fountain Street Church in her memory.
