ZUKERMAN

Dorothy Shachner Zukerman, 79, died Friday, August 6, in her Morton Grove, IL, home. Ms. Zukerman, a Legal Secretary in the Illinois Appellate Court for many years, is remembered as an accomplished pianist who contributed her musical talent to the programs of various organizations and gatherings of family and friends. A lover of dance and a student of Anne Rudolph, she became an avid folk dancer during her retirement years. Recent organizational and volunteer activities include serving as co-president of the Shira Hadassah Chapter, membership in the National Council of Jewish Women, and tutoring Russian Jewish and Korean emigres. Her lifelong zest for learning led to her Bat Mitzvah at age 61 and her Associate Degree from Oakton Community College at age 73. Dorothy and her late husband, Herman Zukerman, who died in 1987, were a particularly devoted couple for 51 years. Upon retirement, they chose to reside periodically in Israel during the late 1970s and early 1980s. She enjoyed a wide circle of extended family, lifelong friends, and new friends. Survivors include two daughters, Judith and Elyse; two grandchildren, Ariel and Daniel; a son-in-law, Jerry Kaufman; her brother, Harold Shachner; and an “adopted” daughter, Lorraine Trachtenberg. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 2821 Central St., Evanston, IL, 60201, Shira Hadassah Chapter, 111 N.
