Julius Mittman, 88, of 251 Riverside Avenue, Torrington, died Friday in Adams House, Torrington.

Born in Germany, he lived in Torrington most of his life. He was formerly a toolmaker for Hendey Machine Company of Torrington. He was a member of the Old Timers of Torrington, Modern Woodmen of America, FOE Aerie 974 of Torrington, and a former deacon of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Torrington. He leaves three daughters: Mrs. Kendel A. Krossfield of Torrington, Mrs. Robert Harrison of Cheshire, and Mrs. Leland Goodale of Bloomfield; a brother, Theo Kneisler of Torrington; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Julius Mittman

Mrs. Olga Mittman, 79, of 251 Riverside Ave, died Monday at Drummond Convalescent Hospital. Born in Germany, she came to Torrington in 1903. She and her husband, Julius Mittman, observed their 58th wedding anniversary on June 29.

In addition to her husband, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Kendall Crossfield of Harwinton, Mrs. Robert Harrison of Cheshire, and Mrs. Leland Goodale of Bloomfield; three brothers, Edmund Arndt of Torrington, Ralph Arndt of Terryville and Rheinhold Arndt of Newtown; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Schellenberger and Mrs. Emma Like, both of Torrington; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Gleeson Mortuary — the Rev. Richard H. Porritt, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

The mortuary will be open today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the building fund of St. Paul’s Church are suggested.
