[3069]MRS. FRIEDA L. WHITMAN
Mrs. Frieda L. Whitman, 207 Monroe Street, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday at Muscatine General Hospital.
She was a native of Muscatine, being a daughter of George and Tena Reike Mittman, and had been a lifelong resident of the community.
She was married to Vernon H. Whitman in Chicago on July 22, 1922. Mrs. Whitman was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Surviving are her husband and two sons. Thomas L. Whitman of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Richard H. Whitman of Muscatine: two brothers, Benjamin and William Mittman, both of Muscatine; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Getzel and Mrs. Pearl Eppel, both of Muscatine; and one grandson, Theodore V. Whitman, of Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the George M. Wittich Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

[3070]VERNON H. WHITMANVernon H. Whitman, 70, of 207 Monroe St., died at his home Sunday morning. The son of Frank and Margaret Ingram, Whitman was born in Columbus, Ohio, on May 28, 1898. Mr. Whitman had lived here most of his life.
On July 22, 1922, in Chicago, Vernon Whitman married Frieda L. Mittman. He attended the First Church of Christ and was a member of the Masons. Mr. Whitman was the founder and operator of Whitman's Food Market from 1939 until he retired in 1964.
Survivors are two sons, Richard H. Whitman of Muscatine and Thomas L. Whitman of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the George M. Wittich Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
