[2868]Mrs. Mittman, 83, Succumbs After a Long IllnessMrs. Amelia: Schmalz. Mittman, 83, lifelong resident of Muscatine County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Lohse, Rural Route. No. 6, at 8:50 a.m. today. She had been ill with complications due to old age for a year.
The daughter of Ferdinand and Amelia Palzgraf Schmalz was born in Muscatine on June 27, 1859. She was married to John Mittman here on September 22, 1880. Mrs. Mittman was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church.
Survivors are two sons, Fred and Albert Mittman of Muscatine; three daughters, Mrs. John Lohse of Muscatine, Mrs. Leonard Mason of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Arnold Wickey of Davenport: a brother, Ferdinand Schmalz of Muscatine: three sisters, Mrs. Anna Liessering of Muscatine; Mrs. Louise Hakes of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Cara Stone of Willoughby, Ohio, 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her husband, parents, and one brother preceded her in death.
The body is at the George M. Ottich Funeral home and will remain there for the rites at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Wayne W. Witte of the Evangelical and Reformed church will be in charge. The burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, with private services held at the gravesite.

[3805]John Mittman, Dairyman, DiesLifelong Resident of Muscatine Succumbs at Age of 77.John Mittman, 77, a resident of Muscatine all his life and a veteran dairyman here, died Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Arnold Wicke, 109 Madison Street.
Mr. Mittman was born in Muscatine County, Feb 9, 1856. He established his dairy business in 1877 and remained active until recently. Heart trouble and a complication of ailments caused his death. He married Amelia Schmalz on September 22, 1880, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1930.
Surviving are the widow, three daughters, Mrs. John Lohse, Mrs. Arnold Wicke, both of Muscatine, and Mrs. Leonard Mason of Cleveland; two sons, Fred C. Mittman and Albert Mittman, of Muscatine; one brother, Andrew Mittman; and one sister, Pauline Huttig of Muscatine; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body is at the George Wittich Funeral Home, 210 Cedar Street, and will remain there. Funeral services will be private at the Wittich chapel, the time to be announced later.
