Jeannette Mittman Sacks

Mrs. Sacks, of Charlotte, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the Carriage Club, her home of 15 years.

Jeannette was born in 1913 in Cleveland, OH, to Molly and Sam Mittman. At the age of 7, her family moved to Galion, where her father owned the Ohio Overcoat Factory. While attending Ohio State University, Jeannette met and married Mike Sacks, a dentist. They settled in Findlay. They were married until Mike died in 1981. Both of Jeanette’s sisters, Mildred and Elaine, also preceded her in death.

Survivors are her daughter Judith Nicholson of Las Vegas; daughters Ellise and Sandy Nicholson of San Francisco; daughter Aileen (Ollie) Polk and her husband Sam; their daughter Betsy and her husband Mare Joseph of Chapel Hill, NC; and daughter Nancy and her husband Gary Friedlander of Naperville, IL. Also surviving are the five great loves of Jeanette's life: her great-grandchildren, Michael and Annie Joseph, Drew, Paige, and Melony Friedlander.

Services are 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Hebrew Cemetery. The family will host a minyan at the Polks’ home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charlotte or Jewish Family Services.
