[7]Arnold “Arnie” Bauer, 87, of Plano, IL, formerly of St. Charles, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Shabbona Health Care Center in Shabbona, IL. He was born September 1, 1921, in Naperville, IL, the son of Jacob and Caroline (Mathies) Bauer. He married Marian Mittman on September 21, 1944, in Aurora, IL. He was a former member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Aurora, IL.
For many years, he co-owned Popp and Bauer Floor Covering and later Bauer Floor Covering in Aurora, IL. In later years, he worked in the maintenance department at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL. Arnie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945. He and his wife owned “Crafts by Marian” in the craft building at the Sandwich Fair in the early 1990s.
He is survived by his children, Cathy (Walter) Harrah of Plano, IL, Ronald (Bonnie) Bauer of Sheridan, IL, Thomas (Judy) Bauer of Plano, IL, Diane (Brian) Roper of St. Charles, IL; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Giles) Nielsen, Julie (Ken) Aldrich, Karen (Craig) Schindler, John (Anne) Bauer, Lora Bauer, Andrea (Brian) Goodin, Richard (fiancée, Ashley) Bauer, Brian Roper, and Zachary Roper; five great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Lauren Nielsen, Ryan Aldrich, McKenzie Schindler, and Nathan Bauer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marian; one son, Robert Bauer; one brother, Jacob Bauer; and two sisters, Evelyn and Alma.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home, 3952 Turner Avenue, Plano, IL, with the Reverend David Kaul officiating. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum in Geneva, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008, until the time of services at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
